Financial Feasibility of Water Conservation in Agriculture

چکیده
Global water use for food production needs to be reduced remain within planetary boundaries, yet the financial feasibility of crucial measures reduce is poorly quantified. Here, we introduce a novel method compare costs conservation with added value that reallocation savings might generate if used expansion irrigation. Based on detailed accounting through high-resolution hydrology-crop model, modify traditional cost curve approach an improved estimation demand and increasing marginal per measure combination, adding correction control impacts downstream availability. We apply three major river basins in Indo-Gangetic plain (Indus, Ganges Brahmaputra), global producing region but increasingly stressed. Our analysis shows at basin level only about 10% (Brahmaputra) just over 20% (Indus Ganges) potential would realized; equilibrium price too low make majority effective. The associated irrigated area moderate, 7% Indus basin, 5% negligible Brahmaputra, farmers' gross profit increases more substantially, by 11%. Increasing volumetric irrigation influences supply similar way has little influence reallocation. Controlling impact return flows important than halves amount available

The role of conservation agriculture in sustainable agriculture.
The paper focuses on conservation agriculture (CA), defined as minimal soil disturbance (no-till, NT) and permanent soil cover (mulch) combined with rotations, as a more sustainable cultivation system for the future. Cultivation and tillage play an important role in agriculture. The benefits of tillage in agriculture are explored before introducing conservation tillage (CT), a practice that was...
متن کاملBeyond conservation agriculture
Global support for Conservation Agriculture (CA) as a pathway to Sustainable Intensification is strong. CA revolves around three principles: no-till (or minimal soil disturbance), soil cover, and crop rotation. The benefits arising from the ease of crop management, energy/cost/time savings, and soil and water conservation led to widespread adoption of CA, particularly on large farms in the Amer...
متن کاملRole of Growth Substances in Conservation Agriculture
Conservation agriculture (CA) integrates ecological management with scientific agricultural production. CA promotes minimal disturbance of the soil by tillage (zero tillage), balanced application of chemical inputs (only as required for improved soil quality and healthy crop and animal production), and careful management of residues and wastes. CA Promotes application of fertilizers, pesticides...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effects of Financial Repression on Private Investment in Agriculture Sector
One of the present phenomena that virtually explain weaknesses in financial systems of different countries is financial repression. Financial repression encompasses the different interferences of governments in financial markets through determining the ceiling interest on bank deposits, high rates of legal reserves, and the government’s interference in distribution of bank credits, which prevent...
